If you’ve ever traveled along Highway 96 between White Bear Lake and Stillwater, you know what tremendous potential it has as a recreational corridor.
Cool lake breezes, rustic rural scenery, a county park, a winery, an apple orchard, a farm stand, the Gateway Trail, ready connection with a national Wild and Scenic River, and lots more would make the stretch a dream come true for bicyclists – if it weren’t for the pencil-thin shoulders and high-speed traffic whizzing by.
But it doesn’t have to be that way! Ramsey and Washington counties are working with MnDOT to plan a better future for Highway 96 – and you can help. Project planners will hold an open house 4–6 pm on September 18 at the Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter, 8390 Lofton Ave. North in Grant to gather thoughts from interested individuals on possible improvements.
